Custody and Access decisions have by far the most lasting impact from the breakdown of your relationship. You may cease to be a husband or wife but you remain a parent forever.

Before you physically leave your relationship, talk to a family law lawyer. Any arrangements you make, whether formal or informal, can affect your future claim for care and control of your children.

There are many misconceptions about the meaning of custody. Custody determines which parent (it can be both) makes the major decisions for your children. Where your children reside is yet another matter. Talk to us and learn the difference between sole custody, joint custody and primary residence and shared parenting.

When parents are unable to agree on custody and access issues, the assistance of the Office of The Children's Lawyer may be required to represent the interests of the children. In some circumstances a child psychologist or psychiatrist may need to conduct an assessment where there are clinical considerations.

Access can be a very thorny issue when your child resides primarily with one of you. Children are not property and access is the child's right, not the parents' right. We will help you to focus on what is in the best interests of your children and to prepare a Parenting Plan to meet your children's needs and best interests.
